Today, I am going to be pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I am pretty excited to do so. Let’s do some 2 point perspective drawings.
So from doing my research I need a piece of paper, pencil, pine, and a straight edge.
I’m just going to skip 1 point perspective and go straight into 2 point. It seems like a tougher challenge.
Let’s get into it
Step 1: Create your horizon line and pick two points on the line to be the anchor points of your drawing. Each “horizontal” (orthogonal) line will be tied to these anchor points.
Step 2: Decide on what you are going to draw. It can be a box. It can be a cute house. It can be whatever. For my first drawing, I am deciding to draw a bedroom. Again I do not draw. I do not have Carissa or Avia’s skills. I have no clue how to draw. Let’s dive into the deep end.
.
.
Some time has past and I have decided I will draw a box :)
I messed up a simple box :) I didn’t think that was possible. Time to get some outside help.
I found a worksheet on Pinterest. Let’s try this again.
Box Take 2: (following the worksheet above)

How to draw a two point perspective box:
Draw a horizon line across your paper and on either end of the line pick two points to be your anchors
Draw your vertical front corner line. Doesn’t matter where.
Draw your orthogonal guidelines that come from one vertex of your line to the points on the horizontal line you have marked.
Create the depth of your box by adding vertical lines on both sides of the original vertical line.
From the vertex of depth line, create an orthogonal guideline by connecting it to the opposite perspective point.
Your last lines of your box is where those two guidelines intersect.
Now, that I think I understand the general basics of this, let’s try something a bit more complicated.
“A building”
“a study space”
What I learned:
Drawing with this technique takes a lot of thinking.
Be patient with your pen lines. I got impatient and just wanted to use my pen and you can see that in the drawings. Use your pen lines only when you are finished with that portion of the drawing.
Spacing is difficult. I do not know how to properly space out objects and make it proportional.
You really have to be deliberate and understand every line that you are drawing
Creating in a new way is always fun to explore. It can be frustrating, but it’s very satisfying in the end. You have no expectations. You have no clue what you can do. You just allow yourself to learn and absorb.
I challenge you all to take some time and try and learn how to use this technique. If you already know how to use it, I’d love to see how you can take this technique further. Don’t be afraid to be a beginner. Have fun and enjoy your time drawing.
