Creating a Time Capsule Message!
For this week’s challenge, Mia asked me to do a time capsule video message to my future self.
Here’s her entire prompt:
"Create a video where you film a “message to your future self,” but the twist is to make it visually imaginative. you could use creative transitions, animations, or abstract visuals to represent what you hope for, fear, or anticipate in the future. You could even include symbolic objects or settings to depict your current state of mind or aspirations.
This challenge is personal, yet it opens up room for experimentation with video effects, storytelling, and symbolism, making it both meaningful and fun to create.”
I decided to keep it simple with my video in terms of my actual “letter” to myself since I think my previous videos were very word-heavy. I also wanted to switch it up and use stock videos since I haven’t experienced using stock footage before. I wanted to see if it would relay the vibe I was going for.
Here are the steps I took to complete this challenge:
Map out what type of theme you want to go for your video. I wanted mine to be soft of like a voicemail to myself, something short and casual but meaningful at the same time.
Write out your “letter.”
Execute! For me, this involved sourcing my stock videos, recording the audio, and putting everything together. You could direct it however you want and even use the footage you take, it’s supposed to be a personal letter to yourself.
Send it in a future email. Use sites like FutureMe.org or similar to schedule your video message to yourself. It could be a year, 5 years, or 10 years from now. You decide when you’d like your future self to receive the message.
