A few weeks ago it was my turn to be in the hot seat of creative challenges. Patrick, whose turn it was to assign a challenge, went through my Google Form answers and found a common theme in the answer to the question, “Who is doing what you want to do in the future?” I answered with a short list of women creatives I admire, and Patrick felt like the concept of self-love was relevant in all their works. So for this week’s challenge, we are challenging you to show us how you define self-love.
Challenge: Define Self Love
For mine, Patrick gave me the parameters of making a 1-minute video on what self-love means to me.
For our subscribers and readers, we challenge you to find a way to express what self-love means to you, whether in a poem, an illustration, a portrait, or whichever medium speaks to you for this topic.
Tips:
I am unsure if I can give you a step-by-step process for completing this challenge since it is very subjective, but I can give you some tips.
Start with writing out what self-love means to you. It doesn’t have to sound like Shakespeare or the most profound string of words ever written, just be honest with yourself. If self-love means putting on makeup or listening to your favorite music, write that down.
Plan it out. Try to define the main idea in your answer to this question. What will be the best way to communicate this idea? Depending on your choice of medium, you can focus on the specifics or convey the bigger picture.
Make it a love letter to yourself. When creating your piece, do it as a love letter or a reminder to yourself. Everyone’s definition of self-love will differ, so your answer should be relevant to you.
