For the creative challenge this week, we have been challenged by Patrick to write a song!
When Patrick first sent the challenge to me, I was very intimidated to say the least. Music as a medium has always been something that I’ve wanted to dip my toes in. Only when it pertains to beat making and instrumentation, not for writing. Writing specifically for music is a completely untapped muscle in my brain that has no experience what so ever.
The whole purpose of creative club is to allow ourselves to create and explore new areas of creation for fun so challenge accepted.
Honestly, after doing this; my song is sooooo trash 😂. I just tried to “rap” it to a beat and man is it bad. There is no flow, I have no sense on how to get on the beat, and the chorus is bad.
BUT.
I went out of my way to create something that is completely outside of my norm. Something that made me so uncomfortable and had me laughing the whole time I wrote it. It was a lot of fun.
Now we challenge y’all to write a song. Don’t take it too seriously. Have fun with it. Enjoy the process of writing. It’s honestly a pretty fun challenge.
Here’s some resources I used while writing my lyrics:
https://www.rhymezone.com/
https://www.thesaurus.com/
https://relatedwords.org/
Rhymezone will help you find different words that will rhyme with the word you want. It will also rank the different words from strong rhymes to weaker rhymes. That way you aren’t always trying to think of the different rhymes in your head.
Thesaurus will just let you know different words that are synonyms. Allows you to stretch your vocabulary a bit.
RelatedWords will tell you what words are related to the word that you put in. That way if you’re trying to write on a specific subject it’ll allow you to put in words related to the subject to allow yourself to maybe change the rhyme scheme.
