Why we created creative club
What is Creative Club? Why am I here?
Creative Club is a sub-brand of Simplex Minds. Simplex Minds is a lifestyle brand we are building for creatives by creatives that focuses on creative growth & process through exploration, experimentation, & limitation. We have been building content at Simplex Minds for over 3 years now. This includes features that breaks down people we admire, personal projects pushing ourselves outside of our comfort zones, and fun little challenges.
Last year, we decided to build a platform dedicated to community called Creative Club. The idea for Creative Club is to bring back creativity to creating for fun. Get rid of the expectations to create something great & bring it back to creating something you have fun with. Because at the end of the day, the act of creating is supposed to be the fun part. Get rid of the pressures of needing to create a high quality project & see what happens.
Why create Creative Club?
We live in a society where we are able to monetize our creativity more than any other moment in human history. It’s awesome, but it also feels like we are losing the essence of why we became creatives in the first place. More and more are we getting different threads & tiktoks on the best way to monetize our skills. We are getting advice on how to price our skills. We are getting advice on how to market our skills. We then put so much effort into all of that than actually expanding our creative thinking & creating projects we enjoy.
I may just be cut off from that section of the internet, but no one is out there teaching us how to develop and expand our creativity. Now we aren’t giving you a step by step guide on how to expand your understanding on shading, but we are giving you exercises to expand your creative thinking.
We learn by doing. Try something new. You never know what you’ll learn.
Why should I partake in these challenges?
To have fun! That should be the main driver when doing these challenges. When you do the challenges and have fun with it, you will begin to experiment & try different things. Your mind will allow you to try things you probably wouldn’t have in a different environment.
Allow yourself to create and you will create something you enjoy. Just go with the flow and have fun with it. We help guide you, but you are the captain to your ship.
Where are the new challenges?
In a few weeks we will beginning our 2nd content season for Creative Club. In this next season, our writers will be challenging each other. Instead of us writing up the challenge and doing it ourselves, we will be having our challenges written for us by our peers.
We hope by doing it this way we can show y’all that we are in the same boat as y’all. We don’t get to choose our challenge, but we will still attempt it. We are putting ourselves in a vulnerable state creatively and hope that gives y’all comfort with these next challenges.
Conclusion
Creating is supposed to be fun. The process of creating should be fun. We should want to create just for the sake of creating. There’s so much pressure out there when it comes to creativity. Everyone becomes so judgmental. It has to be good or there’s no point to it being created. I hate that. Have fun creating. Make some bad pieces of work. Laugh at your work. Make something stupid. Just enjoy the process of creating.
We’re here for a silly goofy time & growing creatively while we do it.
